By Robert G. Ingersoll

And, inspite of their unanimous rejection, his phrases live to tell the tale via at the present time. As proven during this textual content his prose was once terse, biting, slicing and a little boastful for he felt it used to be his objective to carry the sacred scriptures into the glare of a extra sensible realm. Deemed as being written countless numbers of years after the very fact, he observed the Bible as being not anything greater than an exhaggerated sequence of folks stories that have been passed down through a handful of people that, for his or her personal team spirit and significance, self-proclaimed themselves as being 'God's selected ones'. whereas Mr. Ingersoll bargains no medical evidence that his statements have validity (other than easy logic) he asks the questions that experience prompted the doubt and anger that religionists have repressed in the course of the centuries. How can these miracles be established? The principals have written nothing, Christ has written nothing, and the Devil has remained silent. How can we know that the Devil tried to bribe Christ? Who wrote the account? We do not know. How did the writer get his information? We do not know. Somebody, some seventeen hundred years ago, said that the Devil tried to bribe God; that the Devil carried God to the top of the temple and tried to induce him to leap to the earth and that God was intellectually too keen for the Devil.

If this is true, how much better it would have been had he remained away. Is it possible that he who said, "Resist not evil," came to bring a sword? That he who said, "Love your enemies," came to destroy the peace of the world? To set father against son, and daughter against father -- what a glorious mission! He did bring a sword, and the sword was wet for a thousand years with innocent blood. In millions of hearts he sowed the seeds of hatred and revenge. He divided nations and families, put out the light of reason, and petrified the hearts of men.

We know, if we know anything, that devils do not reside in the bodies of men. If Christ said and did what the writers of the three gospels say he said and did, then Christ was mistaken. If he was mistaken, certainly he was not God. And if he was mistaken, certainly he was not inspired. Is it a fact that the Devil tried to bribe Christ? Is it a fact that the Devil carried Christ to the top of the temple and tried to induce him to leap to the ground? How can these miracles be established? The principals have written nothing, Christ has written nothing, and the Devil has remained silent.
